Chris Johnston

Chris Johnston is Country Head and Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand, for CBRE Investment Management, based in Sydney. Chris and his team are responsible for all aspects of CBRE IM’s direct property portfolio in Australia through acquisition underwriting, asset management and disposal, for global institutional clients. Chris has driven the acquisition of direct and indirect assets greater than AUD $1 billion.

During his more than 20 years in the real estate investment industry, Chris has held a variety of positions.  Before joining the firm, Chris was General Manager - Office at Mirvac, on the Capital team, responsible for wholesale third-party capital partner relationships.

Prior roles at Mirvac include asset management for the Mirvac Property Trust and the Mirvac PFA Property Trust across the office, retail, industrial and hotel asset classes. Before joining Mirvac, Chris specialized in structuring and developing real estate products investing in direct real estate both in Australia and offshore into the U.S., Europe and Japan.  

Chris holds a Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Technology Sydney and a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University. For more than 15 years, he has taught several post-graduate subjects specializing in real estate analysis and property finance.
