Professional Experience
Akash Shivashankara is a Senior Portfolio Manager within the Private Real Estate team. He is based in Seattle.
Akash, who joined the firm in 2018, is responsible for performance, strategy, and investment decision making of the firm’s new net lease strategy as well as some of the firm’s largest global separate account relationships.
As a former public sector employee, Akash is driven by a sense of fiduciary responsibility and appreciates that his role allows him to work in service of client beneficiaries. With lived experience in Tokyo, London, New York, and Seattle, Akash brings an on-the-ground perspective to global real estate portfolio management.
Prior to joining CBRE IM, Akash was a member of the Washington State Investment Board’s real estate investment team, where he was responsible for overseeing a portfolio of real estate operating company (REOC) investments in the U.S., U.K., Continental Europe, Japan, Morocco, Mexico and Chile.
Earlier, Akash was a Vice President with Asia Investment Partners in Tokyo, a healthcare sector specialist fund manager, where he focused on execution of net lease senior housing transactions. Akash started his career at ORIX Japan, underwriting infrastructure private equity investments across Asia. He is fluent in Japanese.
Education
Akash earned a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Washington, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Akash is a CFA charterholder and CAIA charterholder. Akash is a Certified Person under the FCA’s Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR).
