Experience

Michael Pierce is the Deputy Fund Manager of one of the CBRE Investment Management's multi-sector value-added funds. Michael is based in Japan where he oversees the day-to-day management, renovation, development and redevelopment of the acquired properties in liaison with the local asset management teams.

Michael has more than 11 years of real estate experience in Asia. In 1998 he began his career in the non-performing loan sector in Japan at an investment venture between GMACCM and Bankers Trust. In 2001, he transitioned to Investment Advisors Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary of GMACCM, as a Vice President in both acquisitions and asset management. In 2004, he temporarily left the region for his graduate studies. Immediately after graduation he returned to Tokyo to oversee the Investment Analysis function at New City Corporation (NCC). In 2009, he moved to ING Real Estate with the transfer of the fund management team of NCC’s Asia Opportunity Fund (subsequently renamed Phoenix Real Estate Fund). While with ING Real Estate, now CBRE Investment Management, he has worked with the Fund Management Team on the Phoenix Real Estate Fund as well as expanded his responsibilities as the Head of Research and Strategy for Japan.

Michael earned a Masters in Real Estate Development from MIT in 2005 and a Masters in Finance from the London Business School in 2006. Michael is fluent in Japanese.
