Chuck Leitner

Chief Executive Officer

Chuck Leitner serves as Chief Executive Officer for CBRE Investment Management out of the business’ headquarters in New York. He is responsible for the overall management and strategy of the firm, which manages more than $120 billion of assets on behalf of its 700+ institutional clients and has operations from 30+ locations in the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific. Chuck joined the team in November 2019.

Chuck is intensely focused on developing and coaching senior talent. He is motivated by building collaborative teams that can identify emerging trends and move swiftly and decisively to create innovative solutions and superior results for clients and the business. In 2019, Chuck received the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award, honoring top CEOs who, from their employees’ perspective, exemplify exceptional vision, trust and communication. In addition, Chuck is fundamentally committed to incorporating sustainable practices into business solutions. As a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and one of the founding members of Greenprint Foundation in 1999, Chuck ultimately helped form and lead the ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance as its first chair. He believes well-executed sustainability initiatives can positively impact the value of the built environment and the quality of high-performing human networks that benefit from ownership, operation and use of real assets.

An initial interest in the design and construction of buildings and cities led Chuck to his career in real estate investment, finance and operations where he developed deep appreciation for occupier and user requirements. With 40 years’ experience, Chuck has extensive expertise in global alternative asset management encompassing the full range of investment strategies in real estate, infrastructure, and private equity. Prior to joining CBRE Investment Management, Chuck served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Berkshire Residential Investments, a multifamily property investor/operator based in Boston. His responsibilities also included investment in specialized real estate operating companies in senior living, medical office, urban mixed-use, and lodging. Before Berkshire, he was Global CEO of RREEF Alternative Asset Management based in New York and Chicago, and prior to his 24 years at RREEF, Chuck worked in commercial mortgage origination for TIAA and GE Capital.

Chuck earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, where he recently served for 10 years as a University Trustee and as Trustee and Executive Committee member of Penn Medicine. He is a past board member and treasurer of PREA and served on the boards of DEXUS, a listed office and industrial property trust in Australia; Deutsche Bank Real Estate Investment GmbH in Germany; and Strategic Value Partners, a U.S.-based global hedge fund. He has been an active member of the Urban Land Institute for his entire career. He currently volunteers as a member of the non-profit boards of Heading Home in Boston, Harlem Lacrosse in New York, Up for Growth Action in Washington D.C., and the University of Pennsylvania Board of Athletics Advisors in Philadelphia.
